Take the sweet crispness of apples, swirl together with the earthy, fruity notes of a great bourbon plus a touch of brightness from a splash of freshly squeezed lemon. Simple yet wonderful, this cocktail sums up fall in a glass.

You can feel it, that coolness in the air that greets you in the early morning. Autumn has been slow to arrive but now you can smell it in the air. When we get together with Emily and Matthew we often elect Matthew to tend bar while Emily and I stir things up in the kitchen – and the Engineer observes! Several years ago Matthew sprung this cocktail on us and it’s been in our collection ever since.

It’s a ridiculously easy drink to make. First you need a wonderful bourbon and one of our favorites is TX Straight Bourbon. It’s smooth and warm with tones of spice, figs and brown sugar. And it’s made in Texas. Mix it together with pure apple juice and add a touch of fresh lemon juice. Really, really easy!

So grab the ice and enjoy this gorgeous autumn weekend with cocktails on the patio!
